Superdrug launches new advice and treatment skin service

Superdrug has launched a new skincare service that will allow pharmacists to supply some prescription only medicines.

The multiple announced yesterday that it will be launching its Pharmacy Skin Advice and Treatment Service in Superdrug pharmacies across the UK “over the next few weeks” in a move it said will “broaden the level of skincare advice and treatment that can be provided on the high street”.

Pharmacists will offer skincare consultations free of charge to walk-in patients and offer self care advice and treatment recommendations where appropriate. Prescription medicines for mild to moderate acne and eczema flare ups may also be supplied “if clinically appropriate”.

Research by the company has found that some people may be less likely to see a doctor about their skin condition due to difficulties getting an appointment. Superdrug says it is launching a public-facing awareness and education campaign alongside the new service to encourage more people to access support and advice.

Superdrug head of healthcare services Caris Newson said: “Building on our digital skincare assessment service through our online doctor, our new pharmacy skin advice and treatment service allows people to go their high street pharmacy without an appointment and be seen by a trained professional.

“Our new service will hopefully go some way in giving people an easy and convenient way to get professional help, advice or treatment for their skin.”

Pharmacy Network News has approached Superdrug for more information on the service.
